Cookies in a Jar
Send the gift of freshly baked cookies this holiday season with our Cookies in a Jar recipe! With this recipe, you’ll learn how to put together a jar that contains all the ingredients one needs to bake up a batch of absolutely decadent chocolate chip cranberry cookies.
Not only is this a great, thoughtful and personal gift to give this holiday season, but it also is a great way to already have pre-portioned cookie ingredients handy and ready to bake at home!
We hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as we did putting it together!
Ingredients for Jar
1 ¼ cup One Degree Organics Sprouted Spelt Flour
1 ½ cups One Degree Organics Sprouted Rolled Oats
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 cup coconut sugar
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup vegan chocolate chips
Ingredients for Gift Recipient
¾ cup softened (not melted) plant-based butter
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
¼ cup plant-based milk
Directions for Gift Giver
Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a medium-sized bowl.
Add mixture carefully to the bottom of a jar, and pack down each layer gently with the back of a spoon.
Gently pour the coconut sugar and cinnamon on top.
Pour rolled oats on top.
Pour a layer of cranberries and then a layer of chocolate chips on top.
Close jar and dress up with ribbon. Then tie the baking ingredients and instructions on the back of the jar.
Directions for Gift Recipient
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Pour the jar into a large mixing bowl and stir to combine.
Cream plant-based butter, vanilla, and plant-based milk together in a medium bowl.
Add the butter mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a slightly sticky and crumbly dough is formed.
Roll dough into 1 ½ inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 9-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Do not over bake.
Remove from oven and let cool before enjoying.
Notes
Don’t melt your butter! We used melted butter to make these the first time, and the cookies spread out like a pancake. Also, the mix fits tightly into the jar – you may have to knock it on a flat surface a couple times in order to get it all in.
