Fight Gout With Healthy Organic Foods

Sunday,May 20, 2012 @ 01:31

A balanced, healthy metabolism requires a nutritionally adequate diet. The sad fact is that in present society, fast food takes up a huge proportion of daily food intake, while fresh fruits and vegetables are absent from many diets. Moreover, many of the items available on fresh produce shelves retain traces of pesticides and even heavy metals. It really is time to switch to healthy eating with organic foods.

The US Department of Agriculture, which developed the Food Pyramid and supports healthy eating with organic foods, has developed criteria for classifying organic foods. Organic foods are those cereals, fruits and vegetables that are grown without any exposure to chemical fertilisers or pesticides, and without the use of growth hormones or genetic modification, and several other qualifications and exclusions.

When you practise healthy eating with organic foods you will be taking foods that have been evaluated to have nutritional qualities much better than chemically processed foods. Organic foods, for instance have higher contents of trace elements, such as selenium and molybdenum, which are strong anticancer agents. They also nurture the environment in which they are produced.

The healing, energising power of fresh, organic food is more than the sum of its chemical nutrients. Organic foods contain many live enzymes released during germination and sprouting when the plant is surrounded by the radiant power of solar energy. Broccoli, for instance, contains substances known as dithiolthiones, which trigger the formation of specific enzymes, which in turn protect cellular DNA from damage due to carcinogens. But only organic broccoli can assure you that this sequence of chemical reactions has taken place without interference from pesticides, growth hormones, or other foreign agents. We derive our energy from the foods we eat. By healthy eating with organic foods, we draw vitality from plants that are full of vigour themselves.

Recent studies published in professional journals have shown that organic foods are superior in nutritional content to conventionally produced foods. One study reported that organic fruits had almost two times the amount of nutrients than their commercially grown counterparts. Another study showed that the antioxidant level in organic produce was six times more than in traditionally grown commercial versions. The high antioxidant contents that you get from healthy eating with organic foods will contribute immensely to cleansing your body of toxic substances. Organic produce also contain lesser amounts of toxic heavy metals like lead.

There is much to be gained from healthy eating with organic foods. You may go through an adjustment period as your body gets used to the diet change. However, the benefits will be more than you ever expected.

Changing your diet can sometimes lead to gastrointestinal distress.

Organic food is the same in virtually every way to regular food however and any problem you’re having is probably psychosomatic.

And “full of chemicals” is MEANINGLESS, water is a chemical.

Organic Foods- Deciphering the Labels

Saturday,May 19, 2012 @ 01:45

Its no secret that sales of organic foods are booming. In 2004 alone, $ 20 billion was spent by American consumers for organics, and this figure is expected to rise to $ 30 billion in 2007.

Remarkable!

Its no secret that organic foods cost more than their non-organic counterparts, but apparently consumers are willing to pay more for the perceived benefits of these foods

Are you?

If you are considering buying organic, here are a few things you should know. First, check and make sure the food label contains the Certified Organic Seal*.

This seal is your guarantee that the food in question has been grown according to the standards set by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) for organic foods and that the grower has passed the scrutiny of a USDA-accredited inspector. This ensures that no synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers, nor genetically-modified seeds or irradiation treatment was used. Detailed records of the growing practices must also be kept and available anytime for an unannounced review.

There are several USDA – Certified Organic Food Categories; not all foods bearing the Seal are 100% organic. For example, if a product label statement reads “100% Organic”, then you can be assured that it is.

However if the label reads simply “Organic”, it means the product is only 95 – 99% organic. Likewise, any food that is less than 95% organic cannot by law display the Certified Seal. What appears on the label instead for foods which are only 74 – 94% organic is “Made with Organic Ingredients”. Foods which contain even lesser amounts of organic ingredients are permitted to display the organic ingredients on the information panel only.

Notice that none of this addresses the food’s nutritional content. Many consumers erroneously believe that by purchasing organic they are getting foods higher in nutrients than the conventionally-grown counterparts. Not necessarily so. Studies designed to address this have yielded conflicting results; some studies show a higher antioxidant content of organic fruits and vegetables, others not. Larger, well designed studies are needed in order to find a definitive answer on this one.

The Organic Seal implies nothing about where the food is grown, either. It is commonly believed that organics are grown in the same locale as where they are sold, but again this is not necessarily so. Organic foods only differ from their traditionally-grown counterparts in the way they are grown, handled and processed.

So why buy organic then?

Its better for the environment. Organically-grown foods conserve, rather than deplete, natural resources.

Are you willing to pay more for organic foods? If so, make sure and read labels carefully so that know exactly what you are buying.

Question by thomas123: Does organic food make you stop growing?
im a guy. I was growing fast until i was 14, when I suddenly stopped. I have been around 5’8-5’9 for two years. My house swtiched to organic food when I was 14. Could this be why? Thanks
my dad is about 5’7

No, if anything this should make you grow more. Organic food has less, if any, chemicals in it so there shouldn’t be anything in there that is stunting your growth. It’s just genetics, you’ve already surpassed your dad. So you might just stay this height, but then again you’re just 14 and still have a few more years of puberty left. so either wait and find out, or go to a doctor and he can tell you, after a few tests, what ur future height will most likely be.

Is it Really the Cost of Organic Food?

Friday,May 18, 2012 @ 01:32

I recently had cause, to pause, and began to wonder if the choice to NOT eat organic food is REALLY about the cost……or is it something else?

IS IT REALLY ABOUT THE COST OF EATING ORGANIC FOOD?

Eating organic food doesn’t COST us time. It doesn’t force us to compromise time we could be spending with our families. It doesn’t dictate when we get up, when we eat lunch, when we go home, or what we do on any particular day of the week. Let’s say, for example, like a J-O-B does. But think about the lengths we go to get a job, or keep a job. Think about the daily sacrifices and long-term compromises we make relative to a job.

Yes, we need jobs to provide for our families. But we also need our health to be able to go to those jobs and continue providing for our families for many years to come.

Eating organic food simply costs us “dirty paper”; which we call “money”. When we choose to buy organic food, over conventional food, we make the choice to exchange money for healthy, wholesome, chemical free food that nourishes our body and, in return, we get better health, longer life and a TRUE sense of well being.

We exchange that same dirty paper for many other things, and what do we REALLY get back in return?

* A fancy house.

* Nice furniture.

* Designer clothes.

* Luxury vehicles.

* Exotic vacations.

* The latest and greatest in technologies and gadgets.

* Fast food.

With the exception of the last item listed above, some might argue that these things improve the quality of their lives. That’s fine. But how substantial is that “quality of life” and how valuable are these “material things” if you have poor health?

It is strongly suggested that the hormones in conventional foods are causing our kids to reach puberty years earlier, which as we all know, is not a natural thing and creates a whole host of issues.

It is a scientific fact that there are chemicals and toxins and even cancer causing ingredients in non-organic varieties of foods and beverages we consume regularly.

There’s no arguing that there are many products we use daily that are polluting our air and water, slowly but surely, destroying the environment we live in.

Yet, every day, we make choices that not only don’t support our health and well being, but actually harm us on a very regular basis. And the EXCUSE we use is “COST”.

It struck me that when we really THINK about all the many different ways we spend money, and the justifications we use to support our choices, it’s irrational, even borderline crazy!

We are willing to pay a lot of money for things that offer us instant gratification, or that we convince ourselves are good for us and our families. But when it comes to spending a few more dollars per month on eating organic food, many people look the other way and can’t seem to find the justification in it. Many people simply use the “excuse”‘..”we can’t afford it”.

Are we taking responsibility for our own health and well being? Are we teaching our children how to make healthier choices for a lifetime, or are we teaching them how to make choices for the moment, in the moment, without any regard for their future? And not only the future of their own health, but the future of their environment; the world they will live in for years to come? Have we become so self-serving that we are incapable of thinking about the world around us and our responsibility to it?

So is it really about the COST of eating organic food, or is it about the compromises and the responsibilities we must all make and take?

Or are we really saying we don’t want to spend money on organic food, because there is no instant gratification and it requires us to sacrifice other things that we are not willing to give up?

The question then becomes, are we willing to DO MORE for ourselves and our families health and well being? Are we willing to eliminate even some of the excess and some of the non-beneficial things in our lives for a lifetime of results?

Believe me, I do not stand here in judgment of anyone! There is definitely more I can do for myself, and my family. There are still many ways in which we can take even more responsibility for ourselves, and the environment.

But I am convinced it all starts with the way in which we think.

If we think spending more on organic food is costly, then it will be. It will cost you something, whether it’s in dollars or lack of convenience, or time, or effort.

But if we think healthy. And we honestly examine the ways in which we spend the monies we have now, on a day-to-day, month-to-month basis, I KNOW we can all do more with that money. The cost of eating organic food becomes an issue of what it costs us to NOT eat organic foods.

We can all AFFORD to create a healthier life and teach our kids to make healthier choices that will yield everyone bigger and better results for a lifetime.

I encourage you to take a moment and as yourself’..is it REALLY about the COST of organic food? It could be your family’s first step towards making small changes that can grow into a lifetime of better choices and improved health.
